RosettaMaps exists because finding a legitimate place to camp shouldn't require guesswork, outdated listings, or sorting through spots that were never legal to camp at in the first place.

RosettaMaps is built by people who actually spend time on dispersed roads, in National Forests, and on BLM land — not just people who build software. Designed by overlanders, for overlanders. Every feature here was designed around one question: does this actually help someone find a real, legal, currently-accurate place to camp tonight?

What makes us different

We vet what goes in. Submissions go through automated location checks, require real context for dispersed camping spots, and get weighted by community confirmation over time — so the spots you see aren't just whatever someone dropped a pin on.

Data stays current. Every spot can be updated by other travelers who've been there more recently. We show you the most recent confirmed information for every detail — water sources, cell signal, accessibility — not a static listing from years ago.

We take moderation seriously. A real review process, clear community guidelines, and a platform built to keep bad or outdated listings from lingering indefinitely.

It's fast and it's clean. No clutter, no relics of a decade-old interface. Just a map, real information, and the tools to find what you're looking for.

Built on real federal and state data

Alongside community-submitted spots, our database includes verified campground and recreation site data sourced directly from the Recreation Information Database (RIDB) and the U.S. Forest Service's own recreation data system — the same authoritative sources that power Recreation.gov, covering the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and other federal agencies. We also include verified campground data from California State Parks and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife GIS Unit. When you see an agency-sourced listing, you can trust it came from the source that manages the land, not a guess.

Why we built this

We got tired of camping apps full of spots that don't actually work — places that are closed, illegal, or were never real to begin with. So we built the tool we wished existed: clean, current, and trustworthy.
